'But is it really a relationship?!'

So, after browsing Pinterest this evening, I came across a little article that provoked me to make my 1,000,000 attempt at blogging. The title of said article was 'How to survive a long distance relationship'. Now being in one of these myself, I saw the word 'survive' and couldn't help but notice how it makes the whole situation seem completely unbearable, which in my experience it really doesn't have to be. Basically i'm hoping that if anyone even does see this post, it will come as a little ray of hope. However this is mostly just a rant to myself.

It is fair to say that a long distance relationship is just a MUCH more emotional version of your common one. The goodbyes are a face full of mascara (picture the grudge), the hello's are literally the best you can imagine, and the middle? Well, admittedly that bit is just a bit all over the place. This mysterious middle bit does sometimes make the long and stressful days that little bit longer and more stressful. However it is only these moments you need to 'survive'. Having said that, i'm grateful to say that pretty much every day for me is a good one, and I think that having the right mindset is the only rule I try to stick to.

I think the most important thing to say is don't let ANYONE tell you what to do or how to feel. Somebody said this to me, and I was surprised at how much I needed to hear it. Everyone is different, and what works for other couples wont necessarily work for you. Only you know how you feel and what is best for you. Worrying about these things just adds unnecessary stress. I have even been asked 'but is it really a relationship?!' YES. Actually, it has already lasted longer than most peoples regular relationships thank you very much. Furthermore, perks include not having to worry about how disgusting that spot on my forehead looks when up close and personal, or about that stray hair on my leg that I missed. (There's always one fgs)

There is so much I can say on this subject, but to keep it short and sweet, at the end of the day, the quality of a relationship is way more important than the convenience of it.  I'm not saying it is easy, but it is TOTALLY possible for it to work, and most importantly, for you to be happy in it. If you're both committed and the trust is there, the distance shouldn't have to define it.
